1-Reference: Procedure for connecting old and new systems using Thunderbird

Introduction

This section will explain how to install Thunderbird and connect IMAP.

1.When Thunderbird is not installed

About the Thunderbird free download site

If Thunderbird is not installed, download it from the official Thunderbird site and install it.
If it is installed, move to 2.Saving the xml files.
Once you have accessed the download site, click "Thunderbird Free Download."

The steps from here are different for Windows and Mac.

When Thunderbird is not installed (when using Windows)

  1. Save the "Thunderbird Setup xxx" file anywhere you like.(Example: In the Downloads folder)
  2. Run the "Thunderbird Setup xxx" file from where you saved it.
  3. When the User Account Control window is displayed, click "Yes."
    The installation screens will be displayed, so follow the steps below.
    If the security warning screen is displayed, click "Yes."

When Thunderbird is not installed (when using Mac)

  1. Download and save the "Thunderbird [Version No.].dmg" file.
    Run the downloaded "Thunderbird [Version No.].dmg" file.
    Drag the Thunderbird icon to the Applications folder.

About downloading the xml files

Using the xml files allows the Thunderbird settings to go smoothly.
Download and unzip the xml files and save them to the following location.
・xml file: Thunderbird isp.zip

The steps from here are different for Windows and Mac.

Saving the xml files (for Windows)

・Save location (64-bit) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\isp
・Save location (32-bit) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\isp

Saving the xml files (for Mac)

・Save location /Applications/Thunderbird/Contents/MacOS/isp/

After launching Finder, search for "Thunderbird.app" or select "Thunderbird.app" from the application,
and click "Display the package contents."

Move to the following save location and copy the xml files.

3.Thunderbird IMAP connection settings

Launch Thunderbird and connect the current system (DEEPMail) and the new system (Gmail) using IMAP.

  1. Set the current system account.The following screen will be displayed when using this for the first time, so click "Set an email account."
    If you are already using it, use "Tools" → "Account settings" → "Account operations" → "Add email account" to display the following screen.
    *If "Tools" does not display, press the [Alt] key to display the menu.
  2. Fill in "Your name," "Email address," and "Password," and click "Continue".
    Then the message "Account settings have been found in the Thunderbird installation folder," so click "Finish."
  3. Set the new system account
    You will need your Keio Apps ID and email software password for setting the following steps.
    Refer to Using Thunderbird to check your Keio Apps ID and email software password.

    Right-click the account you created, then click → "Settings."

  4. Click "Account operations" on the bottom left of the screen and then click "Add an email account."
  5. For the new system, fill in "Your name," "Email address," and "Password," and click "Continue."
    Then the message "Account settings have been found in the Thunderbird installation folder," so click "Finish."
    This completes the account settings for the current system and the new system in Thunderbird.
